How to Replace a Flat Tire

There's nothing more inconvenient than being stuck with a flat tire. While most people in Concord prefer to leave the job to the professionals, there may be times when you have to go the DIY route. Below are a few tips and tricks to make it easier to change a flat tire.

  • Find a safe place to park: Don't park on the grass or dirt, as the jack may sink into the soil. Avoid hills if possible.
  • Secure the vehicle: Turn off the engine and set the parking brake. Use a heavy rock or wheel chocks to keep the vehicle from rolling.
  • Get your tools: Your vehicle's owner's manual will tell you the location of your tire tools, jack, and spare tire.
  • Loosen the lug nuts a bit before jacking up the vehicle.
  • Use the jack to lift the car.
  • Take off the lug nuts and then the wheel before setting them aside.
  • Put on the spare by aligning it with the wheel studs. Add the lug nuts, tightening them a bit.
  • Lower the vehicle and completely tighten the nuts in the appropriate order

Finally, you're ready to lower the vehicle. Remove the jack and wheel chocks before doing so. While your owner's manual can provide information on spare tires and removal methods, the team at Lithia Fiat of Concord can help as well. Call today to schedule a service appointment.
