How to Test Your Car's Battery

Without a battery, your car will never have enough juice to create the spark which fires your engine to life. Batteries typically last for a few years but do need to be replaced once they get to the end of their usable life. That is why our team here at Lithia Fiat of Concord wants to be sure you know all of the basic steps to testing your battery.

First, make sure every light is out in the car and the keys aren't in the ignition. Then, hook up a voltmeter to the battery insuring that red goes to red and black goes to black. After this, read the voltmeter to determine the battery life. Anything over 12.4 volts is considered good and anything under this mark means your battery is nearing the end of its life.
